Seneca was the tutor and advisor to Emperor Nero and one of the wealthiest men in the Roman Empire. Yet, as a Stoic philosopher preaching self-control, he was criticized for his contradictory wealth.
To avoid becoming a slave to wealth, he practiced a unique training. For a few days each month, he wore cheap clothes and ate dry bread, asking himself: 'Is this the condition that I feared?' By experiencing it, he freed himself from the fear of losing wealth.
