William Blake was an English Romantic poet and painter, but his creative imagination was dismissed as the sleepwalking of a madman. Yet, in the age of the Scientific Revolution that worshiped reason, he believed imagination was the greatest force of the universe.
He claimed to see angels fluttering their wings in a tree near his home as a child, and translated numerous spiritual visions into poetry and art. To him, imagination was the 'eye of the soul' that looked past physical boundaries into the infinite.
