Walking

"People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth."

— Thich Nhat Hanh

Today's Question

On your way to the station or office, focus for just ten steps on the feeling of your soles touching the ground. What sensation reaches you first?

The monk Martin Luther King Jr. nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

In the middle of the Vietnam War, Thich Nhat Hanh led 'engaged Buddhism,' with monks rebuilding villages and helping refugees. Because of his peace work he was barred from his homeland for about 39 years from 1966, and he founded the Plum Village meditation community in France.

In 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. nominated him in a letter to the Nobel committee, writing that he did not know of anyone more worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize than this gentle monk from Vietnam. At Plum Village, whenever a bell rings, everyone still stops what they are doing and takes three breaths.
