"We are the sum of our choices. To not choose is also a choice."
Today's Question
Among the many choices you made today, which one's result are you most excited to see?
You are already choosing even when you don't
To Sartre, freedom was a 'curse' of heavy responsibility. Since humans are born without an innate essence, they must create themselves through every choice.
During WWII, a student asked whether to care for his mother or join the Resistance. Sartre replied: 'You are free; choose—that is, create.' He meant that no choice has a pre-set answer; the act of taking responsibility defines your existence.
