"To make a mistake and not correct it — this is a real mistake."
Today's Question
Have you recently known about a mistake of your own but let it slide without correcting it? If so, what were you putting off?
The student Confucius scolded for admitting fault but never fixing it
Confucius never presented himself as a perfect sage, but as someone who kept learning and correcting himself. He described himself not as someone born knowing, but as someone who diligently sought out the old teachings.
When his student Zilu was told of a fault but failed to correct it, Confucius rebuked him sharply, stressing the gap between admitting a mistake and actually fixing it. For Confucius, learning was complete not when you knew something, but when that knowledge changed your actual behavior.
